Choosing the Right Deodorant


Deodorants are available in many different forms and formulations. Some will work better than others depending on your situation. You will be able to find fragrance deodorants, antiperspirants, combinations, and will also need to choose between solids, liquid, sprays, and minerals. Here are some of the basic differences so you can decide which is best for you.

Application Forms

You will be able to find deodorant in many different application forms. Solid sticks are the most common. These will have a consistency of a thick paste. As you apply this the solid coats the armpit and spreads to the full area to provide coverage. Gel sticks use the same theory, but these will go on clear when applied. These are used most commonly when people want to wear outfits that will expose the underarm area, or if you don’t want to get deodorant stains on your clothing. Spray deodorants aren’t as common, but they can be found anywhere. The deodorant is in a pressurized liquid form. They are good for those who need to quickly put on more deodorant throughout the day. Roll on deodorants are a liquid deodorant with a roller ball in the applicator. These are convenient for many people because the containers are smaller and easy to travel with.

Types of Deodorant

A standard deodorant won’t stop perspiration. Instead, it will keep your body from creating the foul odors associated with sweat. Most commercial deodorants use fragrance oils to create a pleasing odor. Many will also use baking soda, witch hazel, and aloe, all known to prevent odors. An antiperspirant works differently than a standard deodorant. These use chemicals to actually block the pores that create sweat. The result is decreased perspiration. This will not prevent odors from forming however. The most common deodorant option is to use a deodorant/antiperspirant combination. This will reduce the amount of sweat and help prevent odors. These harder to find if you are looking for something natural, but mineral rocks can be successfully used if you don’t want to use chemicals on your body.
